Common questions

Are you eligible for an NHS flu jab?
You may be eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination if you are 65 or over, pregnant, have certain health conditions, or are a carer. If you're unsure, ask our pharmacist — if you're eligible for the NHS version, we'll tell you. Our private service is for everyone else, or for those who want protection earlier than the NHS programme begins.
How long does protection last?
Flu vaccination provides protection for the current flu season. Because influenza viruses change each year, a new vaccination is recommended annually — typically between September and November.
Can I have the flu jab at the same time as other vaccines?
In most cases, yes. The flu vaccine can be co-administered with many other vaccines. If you need multiple vaccines, please mention this when booking so we can allocate the right appointment time.
What are the common side effects?
Soreness, redness or swelling at the injection site is common and usually resolves within a day or two. Some people experience a mild temperature or muscle aches. Serious allergic reactions are very rare — our pharmacist monitors you for a short period after vaccination.
When should I get vaccinated?
The flu season in Scotland typically peaks between December and March. We recommend vaccination from September onwards. There's no benefit to waiting — earlier vaccination means earlier protection, particularly for people who travel frequently or work in public-facing roles.

Signs of a severe allergic reaction

Anaphylaxis after vaccination is rare. If you or someone with you develops difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or collapse after leaving the pharmacy — call 999 immediately. Do not drive yourself to hospital.
