Who this is for

Managed repeats work best for patients who take the same medicines every month or every few months on a long-term basis. Common examples include:

  • Blood pressure or cholesterol medicines
  • Thyroid medication
  • Asthma or COPD inhalers
  • Diabetes medicines (non-insulin)
  • Antidepressants on a stable prescription
  • Anticoagulants reviewed by a specialist
  • Any regular medicine your GP issues as a repeat

If you already collect a regular prescription from us or another pharmacy, managed repeats replace that process — we do the requesting, you just collect.

Not sure if this is for you?

If your prescription varies each time (e.g. warfarin doses adjusted by a clinic), managed repeats may not be the right fit. Give us a call on 0141 637 2014 and we'll advise.

EPS patients

Most GP practices now use the Electronic Prescription Service. If yours does, we can nominate ourselves electronically — no paper at all. Ask us to check when you sign up.

How it works

01

Sign up at the pharmacy

Pop in during opening hours. We note your GP practice, medications, and preferred collection method. Takes about five minutes.

02

We request from your GP

Before your medication runs out, we contact your GP practice on your behalf and request the repeat prescription electronically.

03

We dispense your medicines

Once the GP issues the prescription, we dispense and check your medication. Clinical checks happen at every dispensing cycle.

04

We text you when it's ready

You'll get an SMS when your prescription is ready to collect — or out for delivery, if you've chosen the free delivery option.

Three ways to collect

24 / 7

Pharmaself24

Collect your medication any time — day or night, including weekends and bank holidays — from the automated machine at the front of the pharmacy. Requires one-time in-store registration.

Common questions

Is this really free?
Yes. Muirend Pharmacy's managed repeat service is free. You still pay any applicable NHS prescription charge (or are exempt — we check). There is no admin fee from us.
How do you contact my GP?
We send a repeat prescription request directly to your GP practice through the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), the same system your GP uses for routine repeats. We may occasionally call the practice for urgent items.
What if my prescription changes?
Tell us as soon as you know. Prescription changes (new dose, new medicine, stopped medicine) need to come from your GP first. We update our records immediately once the new prescription comes through.
What if I move GP practice?
Let us know your new practice details. We'll update our records and make first contact with the new practice — there's nothing else you need to do.
Can I cancel?
Yes, at any time. Just tell us — in person, by phone, or by email. There's no commitment period and no cancellation fee. You can also switch collection method at any time.
What if I need a medication urgently?
Managed repeats are not an urgent supply route. If you run out unexpectedly and need medication today, call us on 0141 637 2014 and we'll do our best to help, or contact your GP directly.

⚠ Important

Managed repeats are not for urgent supply. If you run out of medication and need it today, call us on 0141 637 2014. For urgent clinical advice, contact NHS 24 on 111. In an emergency, call 999.
