Common questions

How far in advance should I book?
Ideally 4–6 weeks before departure. Some vaccines need multiple doses spaced weeks apart. If your trip is sooner, still book — we can often complete accelerated courses or prioritise the most critical vaccines.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. Peter McCarthy is an independent prescriber. We can consult, prescribe and vaccinate directly — no GP letter needed.
Can you supply antimalarials at the same visit?
Yes. Peter can prescribe and we can dispense antimalarials at the same appointment. We carry doxycycline, Malarone and Paludrine/Avloclor.
Is the yellow fever certificate internationally recognised?
Yes. We are a registered yellow fever vaccination centre. The ICVP we issue is accepted at all borders requiring proof of yellow fever vaccination, and is valid for the lifetime of the recipient.
What if I have existing vaccines from a previous trip?
Bring your yellow vaccination booklet or NHS immunisation record if you have one. Peter will review what you've had, check whether boosters are due, and avoid unnecessary repeat vaccinations.

If you feel unwell after travelling

Fever within 3 months of returning from a malaria-risk area is a medical emergency. Go immediately to your nearest A&E or call 999 — do not wait for a GP appointment.

For other post-travel illness — persistent diarrhoea, skin rashes or unexplained symptoms — contact NHS 24 on 111 or your GP and mention your travel history.
