How does 24/7 prescription collection work?

What is Pharmaself24?

Pharmaself24 is a secure, temperature-controlled automated dispensing unit attached to the outside of Muirend Pharmacy. When your prescription has been dispensed and loaded into the machine, you collect it using a unique PIN code sent by SMS. The machine is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including bank holidays.

You don't need to interact with pharmacy staff at the point of collection. Tap your code, take your medicine, go.

Who is Pharmaself24 for?

Pharmaself24 is available to any patient who collects regular prescriptions from Muirend Pharmacy. It's particularly useful if you:

• Work long or unpredictable hours that make it difficult to collect during opening times
• Have a regular repeat prescription and want a more flexible arrangement
• Prefer to collect quickly, without queuing or conversation
• Are a carer managing prescriptions for someone else and need flexibility

It suits most standard prescription items. Some controlled drugs and items requiring special handling or refrigeration aren't available through the machine — if that applies to yours, we'll let you know.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up at the pharmacy counter or using our online form. Once we've received your registration, we contact your GP to make sure your repeat prescriptions are nominally dispensed at Muirend, and we set up your account. This usually takes three to five working days.

You don't need to change your existing prescription process with your GP. The pharmacy handles the rest.

What happens when my prescription is ready?

When your prescription has been dispensed and loaded into the machine, you'll receive a text with a unique collection code. You visit the machine at any time, enter the code, and collect your medication. The process takes under a minute.

There's no need to phone ahead or check whether it's ready. The text is the signal.

What if I have questions about my medication?

The machine is a collection point, not a consultation. If you have questions about your medication — dose, side effects, interactions — call us during opening hours, pop in, or ask at your next collection. The pharmacist is always available when we're open.

Can I still collect in person if I prefer?

Yes. Pharmaself24 is an additional option, not a replacement for collecting over the counter. Many patients use both depending on their week. If your medication isn't suitable for the machine, or you'd rather a face-to-face handover, that's straightforward to arrange.
